The story’s flaw is that the characters appear to take their time making decisions. As a viewer, you soon have two or three ideas for how the characters might eventually get out of their situation, but the characters in the film take hours to do so.
It’s also never the case that they keep going well. When one plan fails, they don’t just move on to the next; instead, we get scenes with conversations and other types of drama. From the filmmakers’ point of view, doing things this way makes perfect sense. After all, the film would have been about 45 minutes shorter if it hadn’t been cut.
